TerraPass
Maybe I’m a little bit behind the curve, but until I upgrade my cars from the “average” mid-20 mpg, I can certainly buy a TerraPass for them.
Any similar plans out there? I like that this one supports wind power investments … and here I was just talking about wind power YIMBYs.

I like this. Makes a lot more sense than government taxes to increase fuel prices. It gives the choice and control to the individual and they can put their money where they believe it will do the most good.

I’ve been thinking a bit about why I am doing so many environmental posts. It’s not like I’ve ever seen myself as a big environmentalist. I think what drives it is: First, no other big worries right now. And second, every time I leave my front door I see people in cars that are IMO very out of sync with the times. None of these cars are bad in an absolute sense, it’s just not a good time to be putting miles on them.
At this point I think things like the TerraPass help at the corners – but I won’t be convinced that we are “getting smart” as a whole until the nation’s overall average mpg goes up, and the per-capita fuel consumption starts to go down. (It has done so before, following the 70’s fuel shocks. But after that we (myself included) got [stupid].)
