Hybrid Jerks
Should the guys at CBS be this proud, just because they can get so much less mileage out of a Prius than I do? So much less than the average?
CBS Jerks: 35 mpg
Me: 47-52 mpg
Average: 48 mpg
Jeez, they’ve gotta be driving with the intent to get bad mileage if they got that on a road trip. The only way I think I could get 35 over a full tank would be to 1) drive in cold weather, and 2) limit myself to short (5 mi) trips. As soon as the car warms up, and you get going, you start pulling ahead.
My average from SoCal to Yosemite and back was 50 mpg. My average from SoCal to Sacramento and back (with rear rack and bike on!) was 50+ mpg. My average from SoCal to Auburn (CA) and back was 50 mpg. My average from SoCal to Austin (TX) and back was 47 mpg.
BTW, I like diesels too, and don’t mind that they talk up the VWs (if you discount repair costs they probably do as well as hybrids ;-).
Really, if those jerks at CBS cared, they’d set the bar at the finish line, and declare the 10 best mileage cars (whatever their technology) all to be winners.
