Interesting Times
I have a pretty solid (but open minded) belief that ‘global warming’ is happening all around us. It is something I arrived at slowly, after first hearing about global warming 20 years or so ago. Similarly, I have a pretty solid (but open minded) belief that ‘peak oil’ is happening now. It is something I arrived at a little more quickly, after first hearing about peak oil and diving into the subject a year or two ago.
I think the broader public (and our institutions) have been slow to accept these things because that is just human nature. We have an expectation of a stable universe.
I’ve made a few posts and comments in an attempt to get the ball moving, but I know I’m just one neuron in the group mind. Like one pull in a voting machine, I’m not going to change the outcome by myself.
But I’m going to admit a darker part of my human nature now … that part of me goes “heh, heh, heh” when I read news like this:
The Atlantic Conveyor, a life-giving ocean current that keeps northern Europe warm, is slowing down, scientists said on Wednesday.
If the 30 percent slowdown seen over the past 12 years is not just a blip, temperatures in northern Europe could drop significantly, despite global warming, they added.
Scientists have long forecast that the Atlantic Conveyor that carries warm surface water north and cold deep water back to the equator could break down because of global warming.
Take that, suckers.

Yep. So sad that so many innocent people will suffer.
