- This USB keyboard light looks simple and effective. (Of course there are many more choices out there.)
- Google has patented a plan for data centers on barges. Waves and tides could be tapped for power, and ocean water for cooling. It seems like a neat idea, but the very definition of a bad patent. We’d all be very much better off if data centers were competing on building the best, practical, barge. Unless Google is licensing, everyone else is locked out, before such a hypothetical barge is even built.
- NuStats finds that GPS navigation systems make drivers 12% more fuel efficient. That’s a nice unintended consequence. My first thought was “wow, a lot of people must be getting lost” but, upon reflection, I suspect it is the 12% difference between what we think is the shortest path, and what is really the shortest path. When you think about it that way, the GPS saving makes complete sense.
- Packwhiz is a neat little idea. It’s a packing list maker for travel. Select where you are going, and what you are up to, and it will remind you what you need.
